The 2nd Amendment, the militia and democrats…

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

2nd1stWe all know these words, as well as the other Amendments to our Constitution. Yet, not everyone knows what this means. True patriots know what this really means, so do a lot of law enforcement, lawyers, judges, doctors, cooks, construction workers, factory workers, teachers, preachers, store clerks, office employees, sportsmen and the like. We all know, at least I would say 65% to maybe even 85% of the population of gun owners truly know, what those twenty-seven words mean. I could even be “low-balling” the percentage. Regardless of my guestimate, those of us who do know, that, We the People, ARE the militia. We do not wear a uniform, nor do we have military exercises or drills, although some probably do, I cannot speak for them, just like I cannot tell you what the Masons do at their meetings either. I am just, I guess an “average Joe”. I want the American dream, which for the most part I am living it, not to it’s fullest extent but I am relatively content…anyway I digress.

The militia, as our forefathers envisioned, is the responsible citizenry. We the People. Never before in the history of mankind, has there ever been a form of government such as what we have today. Our forefathers gave us what people all over the world desired, a form of government where We the People were in charge of our own destiny, WE alone were our own “lords and masters.” They however did not promise us a rose garden. They warned us that the American path of greatness was to be a long and slow road. Personal wealth was gained by the sweat from one’s own brow and personal freedom was kept by ever vigilant observation and action. To stand up to would be tyrants and enemies, both from without and within our borders.

This point brings me to the immediate danger as I see it. Please do not mistake my single-mindedness on this. I have been keeping abreast of all the other dangers to the country that I love. I know of the issues with Iran, the threat of islamofascist terrorists, our lack of border security and the ever-growing economic woes we are all facing and many more that I have no space nor time to list them all. Yet, in my humble opinion, they pale in comparison to the one battle We the People cannot afford to lose. Without the Second Amendment, all other rights then become privileges. We wouldn’t have the First Amendment to freely complain to our government officials about the unemployment numbers or the cost of gasoline. We wouldn’t have the right to a speedy and unbiased trial.  We wouldn’t have the right to peacefully assemble. We wouldn’t be able to resist the military or the government taking over our homes and businesses. We have the natural right to preserve ourselves and our property from the overbearing weight that can and often does come with government. That my friends, is why we have the Second Amendment, so that we can defend from corruption what is naturally ours, our bodies, our property and our loved ones.

Which brings me to my next point. You may have been wondering why I included “democrats” in the title along side the Second Amendment and the militia. Well here it is…. as much as we hate to keep repeating facts to the democrats and at the same time repeating these words from the Second to the democrats ” A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Especially the last here, “….the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” We continually as conservatives and libertarians beat our heads against the wall….sometimes even wishing we could do the same to our democrat debaters and politicians, asking ourselves, “What is so difficult about those words “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” that they don’t understand? We continually repeat those words to them, and they act as if they, and sometimes we, never exist. Well, I had another epiphany. Folks, they, the democrats are world-renowned champions at playing “stupid.” I can guarantee that the democrat/liberal/socialist machine KNOWS exactly what our forefathers meant by who is the militia. They KNOW that the militia is you and I, and countless other responsible citizens. That is why they “play dumb” during arguments and debates over gun control. Well, the politicians anyway…the average democrat voter plays dumb in my opinion, quite frankly because they are ignorant of their heritage as Americans, whether they’ve been an American all their lives or for just 4 hours. Obama knows this too. Trust me, he KNOWS. That is why you have witnessed excerpts from gun control history being used in all of his speeches. Hitler knew it…and knew it well, well hitlerkidsenough in fact that he wrote about gun control in his infamous “Mein Kampf” in 1925. When he became chancellor of Germany in 1933, he pushed for gun control and achieved it in 1935 with his “Weapons Act of Nazi Germany.” It was never about the guns themselves…as long as they were in the hands of loyal Nazis. It was all about control. We just recently witnessed our own president surround himself with children crying out for more gun control legislation either with or without congressional support. History shows us that Hitler surrounded himself often with children when speaking on behalf of gun control. History also shows us what happened to not only the German people, but countless others as well when they lost the ability to defend themselves. I could go on and on speaking about despots eager for gun control all in the name of safety. We have many infamous examples…. Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Mao, Che, Castro just to name a few.

In my opinion, in order for us to win the battle over our guns and our Second Amendment rights, we have to change our debate strategy. We can no longer stay with the status quo an use cold hard facts and rational logic, we have to add some emotion into it as well. I am not advocating for name calling as the democrats do, such as they always resort to calling us racists for disagreeing with Obama’s policies. We cannot resort to name calling, however we can “hit” them where they care the most. We have to change the dynamic of how we rationalize with them. Give them plausible scenarios to break them out of their zombified trance. We have to show them the gritty, grainy and ugly pictures of gun control history. I am at a loss for what else to do. I know that we have to change the dynamic of our argument without losing our principles and our audience. When we figure out how to get our desired audience emotional enough to “get into our corner,” we will have won the battle. I’m open to any suggestions on how to do that. Maybe if we could just get our representatives who are pro-Second Amendment to be more passionate about it. I am awake and working towards what our forefathers envisioned, are you?

Well said, passionate and logical. Exactly the kind of thing that irritates and inflames Democrats and liberal, in general. Dean, I would stand next to you and shout this to the rooftops.

    • Brady, a friend of mine from a group called United Patriots wrote this. He really didn’t think it was very good. He showed it to me and told me I could use it if I wanted. I was blown away. The thing I always wanted to do with this blog was make it about real people voicing real opinions. I have found a lot of guys and gals who have talents that they never knew they had. I am so happy for him. Our stats are on eastern time, so we are 47 minutes into the day right now and this is the #1 article on the site, at least for now. I am so happy for him. I told him he should write with us more often and just use a pen name. Thank you for your kind words. I will stand by you any day as well, as I’m sure my friend will. He is a really good guy. He just didn’t think he was a writer. This is exactly what people want to read, in my opinion.

      • Brady says:

It’s good to meet another patriot. I’ve shared many of your blog entries on my personal page and ‘liked’ a good many more. In addition to my own personal stance, I am also the Special Projects Coordinator for the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. We have a blog and forum of our own, and I think your site’s writings would be well received by the nearly 7000 members there. We should talk.

A Gentleman, A Scholar, and a Writer. Dean your friend is most definitely a writer! And must be encouraged to continue to do so. I for one would be most interested in reading anything he pens in the future, as well as where this idea leads.

  3. I feel like I’m hitting my head over and over and over again when I keep saying SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!! I am at a loss for how people sit and argue, “well, do you REALY need this type of gun or that type of gun.” B****h, do you REALLY need this type of car or that type of car? is what I want to answer back. I love this post!!! LIKE LIKE LIKE!!!!

An awesome post from my friend over at D.C. Clothesline

  5. Dean..It’s evident that there is no debating these issues with Liberals. They don’t want to know the facts, rather they are influenced solely by emotion. I show stats, pictures, definitions of Constitutional terms, facts facts fact, to which they NEVER have a response. They either shut down, change the subject or attempt to engage in a straw man argument such as why do I NEED these weapons etc..When I foolishly and previously attempted to engage and educate well meaning liberals on our form of Government, The Constitution, natural rights verses limited privileges it just fell on deaf ears and this is including my own sweet mother. They don’t want to see, know or face the facts here. All they know is the emotion of it all and what SEEMS reasonable and right in a civilized society and world..They are always quoting statistics on how everyone else in the Western world has health care and shame on our Govt,. for not giving it to us!..Everyone else has sensible gun laws and they have much fewer gun homicides as a result, blah blah blah..The fact is, they just don’t get it, don’t understand our Founders intensions and our system of Government at all. Of course we know they do not teach these things in the public communist educational system in this country.

Anyway, the fact of the matter is there is no talking to these people. They are brainwashed and it will take either them being raped or killed as a result of not having a weapon to defend themselves or God forbid, one of their children to even begin to snap them out of the trance. Of course it will be tragic and too late. I’m not saying anything to any of them anymore and they DAMN well better not try to patronize me or I will shut them down and walk away. I have no time for ANYONE who is in favor of treading upon me.

  6. bogbeagle says:

I am afraid that, what you ask, cannot be done.

There are two ideologies in conflict … each ideology has lots of names, but we could call them “collectivism” and “individualism”.

The core tenet of “collectivism” is that the individual isn’t important. He must always be inferior to the group.

From what I see, ALL political parties are “collectivist” and this is reflected in the very idea of voting … the idea that individual’ rights have no standing if you are in the minority.

If a “collectivist” were to concede that the individual had a “right” … any “right” … which was beyond the reach of the group, then that collectivist would have to abandon his core belief in “group’ supremacy”. Once he did that, then he would have to question his whole ideology and the way that he has structured his life … his job … his friends. Because, we do construct our lives in accordance with our personal beliefs; our ideologies.

So, it’s a big “ask” to hope that a “collectivist” can be won over.

Of course, “collectivism” is a continuum. Some people are less committed than others. The same is true of individualism. But, those half-way people, like many reading this blog, will be leading “dissonant” lives, wherein their actions are often in conflict with their stated beliefs. A good example of this would be the oft-found “unquestioning support of the military”. We all know what murder is. We all know it’s wrong. But, somehow …when the troops do it … we get right behind them. When that’s pointed out to you, anger is the likely reaction. The alternative to anger is introspection … and then you are faced with your own inconsistencies and immorality. Many people just don’t have the strength.

In short, the question of gun control is bi-polar … you either Comply or you Defy. There will be no shortage of men, both collectivist and individualist, who are willing to kill for their personal ideologies.

I’m sitting 3,000 miles away, and I think that I can see the rift that this issue causes. There simply is no “middle ground”. So far, the history of gun-control in America, has been one of “compliance”. There has been a lot of gun-control.

Now, it’s said that the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour … and that’s a pretty powerful predictive tool. But, not infallible.

You might study the history of gun-control in other countries … and see that nearly everyone has been disarmed by the State; usually without much protest. You have to ask, “Why?” The only answer that I can propose is that there has been an ideological shift from “individualism” to wards “collectivism”, in every modern Nation State. I can tell you this much, from my own experience … it begins with socialised medicine. Medicine is such a powerful stick with which to beat you.

Get used to hearing, “YOU can’t do that … because the rest of us have to pick up the bill for your injuries.”

Apologies for rambling. It’s hard to make sense of it all … and doubly hard to write it down.

    • Tom Laws Jr. says:

Insert “consensus” for “collectivism” or you could also substitute “democracy” for the same. This country was not founded as a democracy..it was and is supposed to be a REPUBLIC! This is where we have gone wrong 🙂

      • bogbeagle says:

Absolutely. And, there’s a dozen different ways to look at the same problem.

Here’s the thing, though … for me, anyway.

Each previous bit of gun-control has met with ineffective resistance.

Now, it seems to me that there needs to be fairly fundamental change in the minds of millions … else the next piece of gun-control will be met with ineffective resistance. Ny “millions”, I’m referring to the very many gun-owners who conflate allegiance to the State, with allegiance to America. That’s where the difference lies between Resistance and Compliance. IMO.

We Brits were disarmed piecemeal … though we never had the same culture of gun-ownership, as you do, since we retain a political system which is still quite feudal. That is, the Lords have the arms, the serfs do the work. But, here, there was never any effective resistance to gun-confiscation. In fact, I don’t recall ever hearing anyone speak up for firearms’ ownership.

I freely admit that, in 1997, I had no interest in the topic. Fast asleep, like an obedient little Statist.

Now, the culture here is so “anti” that I don’t know a single pro – RKBA person, outside of the internet. Some of those people even fear to mention the topic to the members of their own families, because of the trouble it would cause. Now, that, is effective indoctrination.

Truly Orwellian … and the “people” embrace it.

  8. Bret says:

    Good Article.
I am at the point where maybe this is the only answer left:
‘The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.’

  9. Darrell says:

C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E-L-Y AGREE! Can I get an AMEN?

Many here are probably familiar with the Russian professor who predicted that the U.S. would be divided up and come under the “influence” of various other communist/socialist countries, and its looking more and more like we’re on that path. Liberals do not want to be confused with the facts, and the MSM is all too happy to further bo’s ruinous agenda. If the conservatives in congress don’t start growing a spine, wise-up and state their message (assuming they have one left) in a clear, concise and LOUD voice, I fear we’re headed toward anarchy, which it appears is what this administration is counting on. Sounds ‘conspiracy theory’ to many – I know – but that’s how I (sadly) see it.

I see the mainstream media (MSM) as THE MAJOR PROBLEM here – they, more than any other group (aside from congress and the potus) are responsible for furthering the agenda that we see unfolding before our eyes. I don’t know how, but they need to be exposed for what they are and get the “proper” message across to those who are being brain-washed by them.

The right to keep and bear arms to fight tyranny is our last defense. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

  10. Dave says:

    Here, Here!!! AMEN!!!
    I whole heartily agree 110%.

It may not be as dire as we think…I for one still have hope.
All we have to do is sway just 10% of the “common” population, if political theories are to be believed. Far be it from me to say that I am a political scientist or even know half of the things I should. We will never sway the politicians for sure….however it stands to reason, that we can sway the average voter. I am not saying that we have to sway all 10% of the “average” democrats…..we just need a solid 10% more in “our corner”. As this blog stated we cannot afford to lose either our message or our audience….without losing our head and throwing a temper tantrum like the democrats and liberal media do.

Dean, if I may make a suggestion, if you friend could include actual gun facts…not the crap we get from liberal media and their incessant death toll count, but real life saving facts. Such as what we all read about down in Georgia. If we could get that to go “viral” in the lame stream media we might stand a peaceable chance. We have to use extreme resistance only as a last resort….otherwise we end up as a statistic in the negative column. We need to keep focusing on the positive message. Without it ….all else fails.

Tell your friend Dean, well written.!!!

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA…Some parts of this are borrowed from Patriot Friends.
by Jeanne Carrara Price on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:57am ·

I assume you studied Constitutional Law and the Federalist Papers in law school (the two cannot be separated in understanding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights).. County Sheriffs can stop gun control. Did you know that no matter what gun control laws are passed by the federal government, they can only be enforced in your area if you County Sheriff allows them to be.

The ultimate legal authorities in the land are the county sheriffs. This was established from the time of the Founding Fathers and upheld by the US Supreme court in the 1997 case of Printz v. United States. Initially, the case was Mack v. United States, but by the time it reached the Supreme Court it was renamed. Sheriffs and Legislatures in a number of states are asserting their rights under the Constitution to nullify the assault on the 2nd Amendment.

Furthermore, The Dick Act of 1902, also known as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R. 11654, of June 28,1902, invalidates all so called gun control laws. It also divides the militia into three distinct and separate entities.

The three classes H.R. 11654 provides for are the organized militia, henceforth known as the National Guard of the State, Territory of the District of Columbia, the UNORGANIZED militia and the regular army.

The militia encompasses every able-bodied male between the ages of 18 and 45. (And now we include women and people of all ages) All members of the “UNORGANIZED MILITIA HAVE THE ABSOLUTE PERSONAL RIGHT AND SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS OF ANY TYPE AND AS MANY AS THEY CAN AFFORD TO BUY.”

The DICK ACT OF 1902 CANNOT BE REPEALED; to do so would violate bills of attainder and ex post facto laws which would be yet another violation of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I’m really tired of left wing dolts (like Joe Manchin of WV) talk about not needing a gun that holds more than ten rounds to kill a deer!

Sorry…The Founders didn’t have deer hunting in mind when they included the 2nd Amendment. They were talking about tyrants who would try to neuter the 2nd Amendment by equating it with the privilege to go hunting!

George Washington ~ On defending ones self AGAINST a corrupt government ~ “A free people ought not only be armed and disiciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from anyone who might abuse them, which would include their own government.”

Trench Coxe ~ On weapons of War ~ “Congress shall have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every other terrible implement of the soldier are the BIRTHRIGHT of EVERY AMERICAN…the unlimited power of the sword is not int the hands of wither the federal or state government, but where I trust GOD it will ever remain, in the hands of the PEOPLE! ~ Trench Coxe, 1788

Samuel Adams ~ On the RIGHT to BEAR ARMS ~ “The said Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the People of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms.

Alexander Hamilton ~ On the MILITARY being INFERIOR to the citizens in the use of ARMS ~ “If circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can NEVER be formidable to the liberties of the People while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow citizens. This appears to be the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible defense for it, if it should exist.” ~ Federalist Paper No.29

Thomas Jefferson ~ On Control of the Government by the PEOPLE ~”In questions of power, then, let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” ~ The Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 (16 November).

“ASSAULT WEAPON” FACT IN THE 1800s the lever action rifle was invented. It was the MOST ADVANCED rapid fire weapon of it’s time! Most every citizen who chose to arm themselves had one of these rifles, the lever action “Assault Rifle”
At the time that the US Army was armed with the SINGLE SHOT Springfield trap door rifle…NO ONE IN THE GOVERNMENT WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE CITIZENS BEING MORE WELL ARMED THAN THE GOVERNMENT AT THAT TIME…If you do not get the point of these quotes, READ THEM AGAIN!!!!

  12. Nick says:

So where were all the weapons of mass destruction Iraq had? Was it “cool” for Bush to violate the UN council and spend Billions on a war in Iraq. Yeah how did that benefit us? 9-11 was planned by the Bush family and the Illuminati. When 9-11 happened Bush was reading a book to children and continued to read and didn’t worry about the situation. Wake up America the Republicans are all about War and spending billions on countries who don’t care about us. Fact in 2010 31,076 Americans were killed by guns, thats more than 9-11. NOW IS THE TIME for the “WAR ON GUNS.”

    • Todd says:

well Nick, i guess i should be impressed that used the word “fact” But the fact is you haven’t done all your homework. Typical with twisting the statistics for your own purpose to have a larger than the truth number. When you finish your homework and break those numbers down>> how many were in the U.S,? how many at the hands of law enforcement? how many were suicides? how many were homicides? how many were in self defense? how many at the hands of criminals? ect. then maybe you can impress me. but done be to lazy to do your home work! i will give you a 2010 Fact > my guns didn’t kill any one or even a deer. nor did they fall into a criminals hands. But if you would have broke into my house that year. We could’ve added you to the list , even before my two 100 lb. dogs ever had a chance to bite you.

    • Dave says:

Wow Nick, you have stolen the Koolaid jug and finished off on your own.

Please step away from the conspiracy theory Koolaid too. If you must know, Bush kept his composure to keep the children from being alarmed. I happen to have sources on the inside of that, for security reasons they will not be named here. Second to dispel your anarchist libertarianism mentality,( For the record, not all libertarians are anarchist crackpot conspiracy theorists) WMDs were found in Iraq. What you ignorant conspiracy folks fail to realize is that WMDs do not come with flashing lights or shiny “cool” metallic skins. There were thousands upon thousands of mustard gas bombs and mortars found in Iraq. The last time I checked, mustard gas was considered a WMD. Hussein WAS in fact trying his best to obtain weapons grade uranium and plutonium, if he hadn’t already had it at the time. What you fail to remember, and the loonies like you is that Bush went to the UN to press his case against Iraq and wanted coalition support. Iraq had been funding and training terrorists and suicide bombers for quite a while at the time. Hussein was also giving money to the families of suicide bombers…more if their family members killed American citizens. When Bush went to the UN…..guess who leaked info about inspection times and the time frame for the invasion to the Iraqis? Our supposed allies from Germany, France and Russia. France and Russia did so because they would have lost one of the biggest buyers of military exports from those two countries. This IS verifiable….unlike your egregious supposed facts about 9/11.

      Saddam’s “charity” link: http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=129914&page=1

      UN “help for Iraq: http://www.spectacle.org/0304/evan.html

Now for your so called “facts” on guns. States that allow CCW’s aka concealed carry
permits have enjoyed a 60 percent decrease in multiple-victim public shootings and a 78 percent decrease in victims per attack. With just one single exception, the attack on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry gun. Interesting isn’t it?

Chicago for instance, has some of the strictest gun control laws in the entire US….YET has one of the highest murder rates by gun crime at the same time. How is this possible? Chicago is supposed to be safer because of the laws right? Not really, it just goes to show you how backward the city really is. Over 530 gun deaths in Chicago alone last year…..42 of those were children. Doesn’t fit your logic parameters.

Please Nick, come back when you actually have facts and have been out from under the influence of your foil hat wearing conspiracy theory friends.
