An Opinion from Karen Fitzgerald…Rum Bailout Hypocrisy?

When we started The D.C. Clothesline we had a different view for the creation of a political blog. Our vision was to show the world of politics and big business through the eyes of the American People. Every day I am getting letters and notes from real people with opinions that should be heard. I can’t share them all, because there are simply too many, but today I’d like to share something I received from Karen Fitzgerald. Thank You Karen for voicing your opinion and I believe it deserves to be heard.

Gun control does NOT work..for more reasons than one. What it DOES do, is leave innocent people defenseless against those that are not going to follow any gun laws, as they are criminals to begin with. It also leaves citizens defenseless against tyranny..just ask the Russians, Poles and Germans…and MILLIONS more. I am sorry for those that were lost and their families..it broke my heart literally. BUT…to use this as a reason to take our rights away is just not justifiable. Guns do have their purpose in the hands of responsible gun owners, which most are. I heard Biden say “if one child’s life is saved then it was worth it.” REALLY?

On the same day that he said that…the Government gave Captain Morgan a “subsidy” of American Taxpayer money that will cover their operating costs for almost an entire year, to make Rum. An average of 31,000 people a year in the US are killed by firearms, more than half of those are suicides. Most of the deaths are with handguns…not the so called “assault rifles” which really aren’t..they are just cosmetically made to look like them. Alcohol on the other hand, which has no legitimate purpose, is DIRECTLY responsible for 80,000 to 100,000 deaths EVERY YEAR in the US, INCLUDING 100’s OF CHILDREN, by drunk driving crashes, child abuse, binge drinking by underage…along with adults in a myriad of ways..violence, vehicle crashes and health reasons.

The cost to taxpayers every year because of alcohol is 384.6 BILLION dollars a year in health care costs, property damage, lost productivity and welfare. In addition, the alcohol makers and the Government makes BILLIONS of dollars at the expense of all those people..their families, and the ones who have to deal with the sickness it causes. THE NUMBERS DON’T EVEN COMPARE. But…I hear NO ONE screaming for a ban on alcohol because of these statistics. I hear NO outrage at all the lives destroyed because of it. And not only that..American taxpayers get to pay for the production of the crap while they get to make all the profit. HMMMMMM…..personally I think it’s HYPOCRISY to the HIGHEST DEGREE by both the government and all those calling for a gun ban (most of whom probably drink..by the way) ..and completely INVALIDATES any argument for banning guns from responsible citizens for the sake of “saving lives.”

It doesn’t wash…period. Talk about banning alcohol and every other dangerous thing the government allows, then I’ll buy it. Otherwise..I view it as a mode of control over the people..because people are easier to control when they are disarmed…as history has shown us time and time again.

  1. Very nice Karen. For those of you who are reading this, if you choose to drink rum that is your choice. I think Karen has a right to voice her opinions about how hypocrisy is stemming from special interests in this country. When cliff legislation was passed they added lots of pork. They extended Hollywood tax breaks, put in special funding for rum producers and raised taxes on 77% of Americans. Is that a fair deal? I agree with Karen and view this as unacceptable. I don’t care if you are liberal or conservative. Some things are just wrong. Special interests and pork have to go.

  2. I do not believe America will survive Obama’s second term. Civil war, revolution, and/or World War 3. Something bad is going to happen. You cannot do this to Americans and expect no repercussions.

maybe, just maybe he will along with biden be removed from office for crimes commited, remember fast and furious and benghazi he lied about both and they try to bring insurection about by stomping on the constitution

I wish, but I doubt there is any chance at all of that happening. I fear we are too far gone.Saddest times of my life!

I dare say she is not voicing support for prohibition or any form of restriction on the rights of people to drink if that is their choice.

The issue she raises is at the heart of things though. The government control over every facet of our lives and the hypocrisy with which they apply that control. It doesn’t have to be logical, ethical, moral, or use common sense in any way. It merely has to serve their purpose to control the masses properly and work toward attaining their set agenda.

I has nothing to do with public safety, protecting children, or anyone else. It only has to do with power and retaining control of the masses by whatever means it requires.

How could any sane, logical thinking, common sense person not believe that this same government is capable of using the very same techniques as were used in Germany, Russia, Cambodia, China, and many others if it feels the need or it’s power and control is threatened?

Humans are the same throughout history. Their situations might change but human nature does not. History has already shown us where this is going over and over. We have an exact road map minus the exact players and the small side roads that might be taken but this WILL unfortunately end in violence of some sort caused by a tyrannical government and blamed on us.

Gird yourselves with the true armor of God and make the personal decisions about where you stand. Then stand firm in your convictions, whatever they might be.

You must decide if the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and this Country are more important to you than life itself. If you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, are those words more important to you than life itself? As an oath taker will you participate in the unconstitutional confiscation of guns that will surely come? Or will you risk your job and possibly your life to refuse and thereby support the Constitution?

The time for decisions is now. The time for action may soon follow.

The great disclaimer. DRINK RESPONSIBLY? What a farce.

A nice discussion by Karen, to be sure.

The only thing that I would add is that we humans have a natural (i.e., inherent, God-given, etc.) right to defend our own lives, and the moral obligation to defend innocent life other than our own. IMHO, this makes self-defense and the right to bear arms distinctly different from any rights to drink rum without gov’t interference. Not that we don’t have a right to so drink, but to the extent we do, it is of a different character than our defensive rights.

So we should be perhaps a bit careful with the equating of other rights with our defensive, as I fear that some of the statist controllers would mistakenly take the bait and control all of them.

  6. Mountainaires says:

Excellent points, Karen! It’s the hypocrisy that is so outrageous.
